Security upgrades

This month we've been applying security upgrades for several websites giving access to their administration interface using a secure SSL connection - without having to purchase their own SSL certificate.
This is done using what's called a 'snake oil' certificate, which makes the connection from your computer to the web server completely secure.
The difference between this solution and a commercial SSL solution is that the snake oil certificate is not automatically 'trusted' by your web browser, so there can be more or more warning screens when you first connect.
Using SSL is important as it means your login passwords and other details are not transmitted in an unencrypted format.
We are also pursuing options for upgrading all websites to a 'trusted' SSL solution. Stay tuned for details.
