Keyboard accessibility

5 May 2014

As part of our continuous upgrade program we've started upgrading our News & Events module to support keyboard navigation. This means than when you are reading a news item, such as this one, you can now perform certain actions without using your mouse.

You can navigate to the next/previous articles by pressing the left/right arrow keys. If there is a photo, the <Enter> key will zoom it for you, and pressing <Enter> or <Esc> will close the image zoom window.

Finally, where the news item includes a photo gallery, it can also be navigated using the left/right arrow keys after the zoom window has been opened.

For some websites we have taken extra steps for improving keyboard accessibility by assigning Access Keys to the main navigation links, and optimising the Tab Index settings for links and other elements on the page.
