Backing up to 'the cloud'

17 May 2011

As of today most of our hosted websites have been backed up, including databases, configuration files and website content, to the AmazonS3 network - colloquially referred to as 'the cloud'.

Data stored on the cloud is distributed between potentially thousands of servers and server farms world-wide and is accessible from anywhere and, at least in theory, immune to geographic events.

The cloud backups are now occuring weeklydaily alongside our weekly on-site and off-site backups which we will continue. So your data is being backed up in 3-4 separate locations, in addition the AmazonS3 ('cloud') network.
